Weald Rise
Primary School

Rising to the challenge,
striving for excellence

At Weald Rise Primary School, Physical Education plays an important part in the physical and social development of the child.  All children are given the opportunity to participate in a broad, balanced programme, in line with National Curriculum requirements.

The emphasis is on giving each child an opportunity to experience enjoyment and success at their own level.  Pupils have two hours of PE timetabled per week through which we develop the physical literacy skills as set out in the National Curriculum.  In the summer term of Year 3, children begin weekly swimming lessons and this opportunity continues into the autumn and spring term of Year 4. We aim for all pupils leaving the school to be able to swim at least 25m.

These skills are taught via a wide range of sports including football, netball, cricket, tennis and many more.  All pupils have the opportunity to take part in a range of tournaments and sports festivals both within school and with other schools.

We have achieved the Bronze School Games Mark.

We work with Middlesex and Barnet to improve the pupil’s skills in striking and fielding through cricket, and sending and receiving through football.

We have a specialist in PE delivering at least one PE lesson per week across all Key Stages. They also provide a morning club 5 days a week from 8:00-8:30am where different sports skills are practised each day. In addition, they also provide a variety of sports clubs after school on a daily basis. These are sports focused and include: Football, Basketball, Athletics, Netball and Dance.
