World Book Day - Overview

World Book Day- Friday 4th March 2016

At Weald Rise we celebrated World Book Day on Friday 4th March with a whole range of fun, educational activites! From by dressing up as our favourite book characters, to writing sessions with author Bernard Ashley, alongside a whole host of literacy based activities and competitions! Well done to everyone who bought in £1- We raised a massive £339 for Book Aid International. Book Aid International provide mobile libraries to vulnerable schools in Africa.

Author Visits:

 

Ross Welford- 24th Febuary 2016

Ross Welford was name 'Waterstones Children's Author of the Month' (January 2016) and we were lucky enough to have Ross Welford visit Weald. He shared his knowledge of Reading, Writing and Illustrating books with us. The children were very inspired by his assembly and then used what they learnt in class. Ross even stayed behind to sign copies of his new book 'Time Travelling with a Hamster' for the children. Please take a look at pictures from the day...

Jack Trelaury- 2nd March 2016

 

Jack Treaury visited Years 2-6, in the run up to World Book Day. The children throughly enjoyed his visit, where Jack spoke about what is needed to be a greta writer and what 'tools' were needed in order to be successful. Please take a look at some of the images from the day.
